thinking of getting this card MegaRAID SCSI 320-2E
can anybody tell me if this will work ok in an Asus A8N-SLi Premium nForce4 or similar type of board, and has anybody on here got 1 of these what do the perform like compared to pci x 133, will i get more than 1x & 2x on the secondary PCI Express slot?.

prob is, not sure which size those are on the mobo tho.

Its the same size as your graphic card goes into the other sli slot

no one got any these?
reason is iam getting a pentium 3 server from a freind that has Raid 5 scsi hard discs,
so i going to get rid of the case server and the other stuff and keep hard discs and move it into an AMD system so i would only need to require a raid card.

ah, so the same as a 16x one then.

dont think too many peeps have pci-e scsi cards at the mo, especially ones that support hardware raid-5. last time i checked this out, the only decent one i could fine was an intel one that cost about £800! - although that was 3-4 months ago i think

if you find any good info on this tho - please update the thread since i'll be looking into this again in the future (when the controllers aren't insanely priced) :)

ok found info and loads of information on this subject

works on Asus A8N-E 4x slot and also 16x slot (didnt no this myself fits 4x slot)
works @ 4x on an Asus A8N-SLi Premium (look like ill get this board)
doesnt work on Asus A8N32-SLI (how strange considering its 2 x 16)
only works 1x speed on a ultra d 2x on the newer models and MegaRAID SCSI 320-2E needs 4x @ least

so seems only the Premium that will give 4x s mabyae a couple of others
its more down too bios support from manufacture but the earlier revison's of the nforce4 chipset will only work @ 1x (capacitors on chipset not correctly setup) for the sli bridge

so for the MegaRAID SCSI 320-2E to work it needs 4x slot or a motherboard that gives split 16x + 4x on the sli.

looking at most of the DFI mainboards none of them will work, not even the expert as these only give 1x or 2x @ most on the other sli.

@ tomos: the card you can get for about £400 brand new mabaye cheaper if you no people who can get this kind of stuff, also il be selling the componets to put towards the card.

and theirs a bad batch of the cards on ebay so avoid, aparently there prototype models for dell wich dont work, something to do with ITBBU cache not enabled so make sure the card comes with ITBBU cache Module because then you can flash the firmware.

hope this helps

Put in a A8N-E as the other slot is an x4 slot and gives 1Gb of bandwidth to the slot. SLI board is a waste as the secondard PCI-E slot will run at 1x when not in SLI mode.

The Asus Premium SLI also has a 4x slot between the two x16 slots

The DFI Expert also has an x4 slot between the x16 slots so should be fine. However on the last two boards you aren't using the secondary x16 slot but a seperate x4 slot.

I've just bought Adaptec U320 SCSI Controller from ebay for £50. It supports pci-x but the only motherboards that support this seem to be server mobos. This obviously means registered memory and xeon or opteron chips. Somebody warned me that scsi would cost me the earth - why didn't I listen? :)

well thats not true, cause iam useing a P4 presler in a asus P5WDG2-WS which dosnt need anything driffrent from my old Asus P5WD2 Premium board. iam going to be useing 2 X 15k atlas drives Raid O on an Adaptec SCSI Card 39320A-R PCI-X. because the P5WDG2-WS has 2 PCI-X slots with the added advantage of 8 phase power circitry. iam useing the same ram, same CPU it also supports crossfire with twin PCI-E slots and 2 standard PCI slots to which i have my XFI fatality installed.

Iam just waiting on the SCSI card to arrive then i will install, should fly along to.

vapor matt hows is that P5WDG2-WS? ive looked at that board myself, but the pentium processors put me of, and theirs no gurantuee that conroes will work with it.
