Hi Guys,

I was just wondering how fast the 150gb raptors really are. Considering they are only 150 SATA drives they wouldnt even compare to a real SCSi setup would they? Considering the price of 147gb SCSI's nowadays, would they beat a raptor?

A Raptor will compare favourably to a 10k rpm SCSI drive of a similar platter density. The drives will be of a similar price too but remember you still need a controller card for a SCSI drive and they don't come cheap if you want a decent one which won't be bandwidth limited for more than one drive.

Yea it'd cost bout 100 just for a raid controller. I suppose the only way to get a noticable difference would be to get a 15k drive or a 300gb one or both :). Although wouldnt just having a separate controller increase the drive performance?

For a single Raptor? Unlikely. The drive is incapable of saturating the bandwidth of the connection to a standard SATA controller so there's no real benefit to be had in using a dedicated controller card.
