Hi guys,

So a friend of mine called me two days ago to say there was an orange LED on the front of his PowerEdge 2600 and it wouldn't boot.

Having taken a look I believe one of the hard drives in his SCSI arrary has died. (It's running RAID-1).

Two problems now stand in between me and a happy friend!!

- Firstly, the hard drives in there are no longer available, so I've had to buy a different SCSI drive as a replacement.

- Secondly, when attempting to rebuild the array, I get the following:
rebuild physical drives in progress
Ch-0 Trag-01
ERROR

So guys, I am turning to you for help.

Can I use a different drive in a SCSI array?
and, what else can I do to try and solve this rather urgent issue!!

Many, many thanks in advance for any advice you can provide!!

What do you mean by a different drive? Different size or different make or model?

Most Raid controllers I have worked with are not that fussy, but when I rebuild a SCSI raid at work we always use the same size drives, but big OEM's are like that.

That error you are getting (I assume it should be Track-01) doesn't look like a Raid problem, more a pretty fundamental Drive issue. Are you sure the drive ID's and termination jumpers are correct? Does the controller identify both drives in the bios?

So many questions I know, but there's a lot we need to know that you aren't telling.
