Usually you do, off the top of my head, leave one on the one its already on and change the other.

What PCI-E scsi card have you got out of interest?

ah thought so, because i cant get hard discs detected.
but i have no jumbers on hard disc ill need to get some.

card is MegaRAID SCSI 320-2E 8x

Also, strange it may seem, my Maxtors only work in one direction. Exposed side to left. Took me ages to work it out. Should not need to change anything if raiding.

can you explain what is exposed side to left

ok got couple of jumpers
i set 1 hard disc to id 0 the other 1 to id1
i can see them with raid card bios
i set up raid 0 shows me 70gb then i format them
now to windows i can see them in disc management
when i try to copy a file to them, i get windows right protected error
popping up, rebooted drives show as failed
puzzled

By exposed side I mean the face with the components on. Is there a reason why it does this, I mean what the hell has position got to do with it.
Mine are 68pin. Power con up top.
Just checked drive. There is a write protect jumper on the pcb. Mine is clear. There are no jumpers on the front. There are SCSI ID's connectors, they are free too. My only jumper is on staggered spin. Are your drives 8EO36LO?

yes they are that number 8EO36LO

i have 2 jumpers on pcb part
going with diagram there set on scsi id 2 & 3
think this could be my problem ill mess about with it
cheers

The mistake you have made is you have only bought 1 U320 SCSI cable when you should have bought 2 as your scsi card most likely has 2 channels (hence the RAID) (What scsi card is it exactly as then i can check if you are indeed not squeezhing all the performace out of it)

Then what you would do for best performance/speed is place each hd on it's own channel/controller instead of both on the same cable using just one of the channels. Also this way you don't need to mess about with scsi id's as both hd's are not on the same cable/controller.

**EDIT** (Just saw a post above)

If thats your card then you should be using 2 U320 SCSI cables or your not going to get full performance from it as your obviously only using 1 channel for both hd's instead of a channel for each hd.

got it working

stripe 128kb write thru on, cluster off

stripe 128kb write thru on, cluster on

when cluster mode is set to on, burst speed is only showing
1 drive but as you can see transfer rate goes up.
