Just been on some scuba diving lessons and it was awesome!

After the 20 minutes of panicking that I cant control my breathing I was away!

best fun I've had for ages, I'd recommend it to anyone who likes watersports (and even if you dont), I'm waiting for some pictures to be developed which should be cool.

Anyone else done scuba diving recently?

want to carry this on now sometime and gain som more experience.

I've done a few dives on holiday but they were beginners dives so I joined the local club and now train weekly for the SSAC sports diver cert, once a week we do 1 hour theory, 1 hour pool time and then a few jars at the pub afterwards.

I'm really enjoying it and the people at the club are a nice bunch. I really can't wait to get my cert but I have a way to go still.

I did a bit a couple of months ago and loved it. Just trying to find the time (and money) to do the PADI open water qualification so I can do it more often.

Was quite funny, few pints is definitely needed after 2 hours of compressed air :D.

Aye, It was £25 for 2 hours of fun, It's just finding the time and money really but it's something I'm getting into.

I recently passed my BSAC Sports Diver qualification and will be diving at St.Ives in Cornwall this weekend.
I did some wreck dives and a drift dive in Portland a couple of weeks ago and it was awesome, although it quickly becomes an expensive hobby.

I went in Ko Tao about a month ago. GFs done about a 150 dives and I'm doing my best to catch up.

Im thinking of going to Ko Tao pretty soon to do this

I'd look elsewhere if i were you as Koh Tao is a ****hole. It's far too busy, commercial and the dive sites are nothing spectacular. I spent my diving time there just netting rubbish.

Only thing good about that place is the pancake stalls.

One member here was an instructor there. I forget his name but he'll be able to tell you more.

I got into diving last year, basically I was going on holiday with my dad and sister and they were both gonna be diving all holiday so I gave it a go, loved it, did my open water refferral (boring pool/theory stuff over here) and got into it properly.

Did my full OW and then AOW in Madeira, then in september last year I went to the red sea for a week of day-boat diving and last week I went for a liveaboard in the red sea. I love it, so relaxing, amazing to see all the fish life (saw dolphins and turtles last week, both firsts for me, the dolphins were awesome :D)

Never dived in the UK though, cold. :p I will do it at some point though, got 50 dives now and want to start getting some specialities out the way to get the master scuba diver, then work on getting divemaster/instructor qualifications.

I seem to pick extremely expensive hobbies though, got the scuba diving which is far from cheap and I wish I could do it more often, and motorbike racing which is even more expensive and more frequent. So looks like I'll only be able to afford one holiday (which will be a diving holiday) a year :( :p

Been into diving since i met my girlfriend 3 years ago, she's an instructor :)

I'm actually going away next weekend, gonna be diving off Fujeirah and The Mussundam :) Whale sharks woo!

I absolutely love Diving, did my Advanced Open Water about 2 years ago in Spain and it was great.

Favorite experience so far was my first Night Dive. Unfortunatly I havn't been able to aford to go anywhere decent for quite a while so havn't dived in ages :(.

ah, that was me. but it was back in 1990/91 so i imagine the place might have changed since i was there.

personally, i agree that the dive sites are nothing special if you are going for just diving, there are better and more expensive places to go but its still a great place to go to learn.

if you wish to do a dive masters/instructors or anything similar its cheap with great weather, friendly people and good night life and you can get some real diving experience relatively quickly

And to get up to date on my qualifications to enable me to do it.

What was it like there? Id most likely be spending a couple of months there. Do you think its worth it for that period of time? Any other useful information would be ace.

I would say you will love it, especially if you go for a few months as you get really "in to" the place and get to know some great people.

I can see why people going for a two week holiday and doing a few dives might not like it, but its the kind of place that the more you stay there the more you will love it.

done scuba in maldives and kenya and both were amazing, it's something that once you've done you will want to keep doing..

only scary moment was a little reef shark I had encounter with, I paniced, but tbh I think he did to lol

Regretted not trying out Scuba diving in the Maldives in April, deffo going to give it a go on the next holiday though. Snorkling was fun, but there is so much more down there to see !

I've wanted to do it for years, first i was uni and had no money, then i damaged my knee and now my friends are too lazy to go :(

I've just spent and hour looking into learning to Scuba after reading this thread. There's a place 5 minutes from me who do a £5, 2 Hours pool session to see if you like it and the PADI Open water Diver course for £249 all in.

Saying I was just browsing this thread for something interesting to read it looks like it's gonna cost me a bomb lol.

I done it in Turkey a few years ago and loved it. Wanted to go to Koh Tao this summer to do a full PADI Open water and Advanced Open water but ended up going to Mauritius with friends instead. I had the opportunity to do diving there.

We went through all the exercises in a lagoon underwater like removing the mask and after a few attempts I got it. Then we went out for the first dive and no matter what I done I couldn't equalise. I ended up cancelling my dive and sitting the rest of the day out. I was so ****** off with myself. Glad I didn't book that holiday to Koh Tao haha.
