Scythe Ninja Plus (AMAZING)

At the momment i have an freezer 64 with the fan at max keeps my 3800+ x2 @2.7Ghz at 22 Oc idle the temps has to be right as before i got the freezer my cpu would reach 60oC then shutdown due to the temp shout down in the bios

From all the temps quoted here unless room temp is at 13 degrees or so then it looks like everyones motherboard temp sensors are wrong.

I would have to agree, i have serious doubts as to the accuracy of the temp sensor on my dfi mobo, it reads a almost 5c BELOW the temperature of the water that is cooling it, water temp measured from a sensor in the water loop, bearing in mind that the water is a couple of degrees above room temp that makes the cpu a couple of degrees below room temp which i think is impossible even for water cooling, right?.

Also don't progs like speed fan / mbm / smart guardian etc take their readings for cpu from the bios? If so they wont be anymore accurate surely?

If your m/b sensor is reading the CPU temp at ambient or below, it's wrong.

There is no way to cool at ambient or below on air, or water for that matter.

In fact, it's wrong anyway.

M/b sensors are worth nothing but a very very rough guide, get a probe for decent redings.

I think most of these temp sensors are wrong.

That doesn't really prove that it's right. It was still shutting down based on the temp sensors - the temp being lower than it used to be doesn't necessarily mean it's accurate :)

i have a dual core with an XP-120 heatsink with a 120mm delta on top of it. when idle it's 19/20C and 27C under full load. considering that the OP has a ninja on there i believe those temps :)

I hate to say this but your temp sensor is way off m8, unless your underclocked/undervoltaged the CPU and your room temp like 10C(or less). There s no chance you get 27C underload on air and only 7C delta for an dualcore with an XP-120, even with 200cfm fan strap on it

If the motherboard sensors are incorrect then that's very dangerous. The default bios settings power the cpu fan when the temp hits 25.

If the sensor is wrong and my cpu is far hotter with the fan off this causes serious concerns surely?

to be fair, it is bloody freezing in the room my PCs are (to the point that i have a fan heater to heat myself up when in there).

the temps have risen a little recently due to the increasing good weather but still not that bad

I have the DFI CFX3200 motherboard, the temp sensor is 10 degrees out in Windows XP, there is a fuction in bios that allows you to alter the zero point of the sensor for your operating system.

When I first installed, I was amazed to find my temps at 22-24 degrees, then I rechecked the actual readings in bios, which were more like 32-34, so I added 10 degrees to the cpu core temp fuction in bios. Now they report the correct levels. I know from experience with other motherboards that my idle temps should be around 34 degrees, not 24. I have a feeling that the same has happened to our friend, seeing as he's using a DFI motherboard.

The Scythe Ninja is a top cooler, but I don't think it defies physics :D

[On a side note, it also doesn't benefit as much from faster fans. If you really want to stick Deltas to it, I think the Tuniq Tower is supposed to be better - where the Ninja shine is when you use slow fans]

I built a rig with a 3000 venice in it that runs 27c idle on the stock cooler/voltage with ambient of 15c with the fan not spinning. But surely the dual cores even with a low ambient and the best heatsink would run 35-40c with no fan. Even then I would not believe that.

Will the scythe work OK fanless on a X2 3800+ ?

If not, what would be the quietest fan to put on it that would do the job? (No variable speed fans as they get on my **** if they buzz up and down whilst working)

Nice Photo! Great temps.

I use a Zalman CNPS9500-LED Aero Flower on my X2 3800+ @ the lowest speed setting, 1300rpm. (18Db)
I get 31c idle & 42c fully loaded. Case temp currently at 28c.

Great Cooler, Nice temps.

so I added 10 degrees to the cpu core temp fuction in bios
They added this feature to the newest dfi expert bios. I haven't changed it since I dont have a probe to take a more accurate measurement. Just got back after being away for the weekend and my opteron 148 at 2.9 ghz with 1.55 volts is apparently at 18-19 degrees idle. Swiftech apex cooling (the storm waterblock one) is meant to be good but 18 seems low. The room temperature is comfortable but I dont have a thermometer to check it. Reckon the bios readings are off?

Motherboard Monitor 5 ?
Yeah.

Read up on this at dfistreet. Seems that the problem comes when temps are off by 5-10+ degrees. I think idling at ~20 is plausible, but would need to check that with a probe, annoying :(

Having been on for a bit, cpu is about 20, pwmic is up to ~42, chipset ~45

no it wont, and the fan that comes with it is quiet enough. 120mm fan @ 1200rpm on 12v:) enough to keep a single core opty at 48c load/3ghz.
