SD Card performance

Got a Macbook Pro coming next week

Will be going from almost 2GB of storage on my current laptop to just 256GB, and was contemplating using an 128GB SD card to store my Itunes library. Is this practical? Would probably be paying a premium for a 'pro' level card.

Ideally I'd like the card to remain in the machine 24/7 so that probably rules out a thumb drive.

Any other solutions for increasing storage without going the external hard drive route?

An SD card will stick out the side of the machine. So if you want something permanently attached, it'll need to be a microSD.

Otherwise, a fast 128GB SD card will be fine.

If the current SD slots are anything like the Macbook Pros in my office, you'd want something more reliable too!

I am definitely buying this when I get a new macbook with an ssd. Unfortunately Apple didn't bother putting a SD card the Macbook unibody (aluminium) until after I bought the computer.

The convenience factor alone sells it for me though it is pricey.

You can buy very low profile usb3 sticks, surely this would be better?

You can pick up the adapters from the rainforest and plug in a MicroSD. Just search for macbook SDCard

Thought I'd mention after reading a bit, the NiftyDrive is just an adaptor. The MiniDrive comes in a couple of forms, one an adaptor, one essentially a short SD card in 128GB capacity. The MiniDrive appears to be the lower quality product, but due to the price, I'd probably look at it rather than the NiftyDrive anyway.

Also, if you're getting a 15" there are still no cards/adaptors that sit flush (including the nifty drive).

Yeah I do have one somewhere and its nice enough, has a few different slots.
