Hi, I'm going on holiday to Japan in a few months and as it's a long way and I don't know when I'll get to go again I want to take some pictures whilst I'm there.

I have a Canon G9 camera with a couple of memory cards but I'm not sure which ones SD cards I should get to give me extra storage. I have been looking at the Sandisk 2GB cards, either the Extreme III or the Ultra II. Now I'm guessing that the Extreme card will be faster than the Ultra but given that I doubt I will be taking lots of shots in quick succession would this difference really be noticeable?

I'm looking at 2GB cards instead of 4GB cards so that I have any pictures I take stored on multiple cards, (to avoid all eggs in one basket syndrome!)

What do people suggest would be best to get?

Cheers

You only get any benefit from using the ultra and extreme cards when you're shooting high frame rate sports cameras, as it simply means that the camera will fill the card a lot quicker and not the buffer, <within reason> hence avoiding buffer lockout.

I don't personally use cards bigger than 2Gb for the reasons you've mentioned,
One thing I learnt is that it can sometimes pay dividends to only take 2Gb with you, as you'll take more care instead of just rattling them off.

Surely you will be able to pick up extra cards cheaply in Japan.

I'm going to be travelling around quite a bit so don't know if/when I'll have time to (a) find a shop over there that sells them and (b) try and understand enough Japanese to be able to buy them, (I suspect "a" would be easier than "b" ;)), hence I wanted to pick some up in advance ... it's not as if they are that expensive over here ...

Cheers

just thought i'd bring this one back to life.

I'm looking for a 1GB SD card, and just wodering if the OCUK brand one will do: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-008-OK&groupid=701&catid=137&subcat=138 or should i fork out a little extra for thr Ultra II plus (or something else maybe).

I'm only using a basic Canon A520 and still using the 16mb card. I'd like to get a decent one, but i think the OCUK one will do and be more than fast enough, am i correct?
