Does it really matter what class memory card you use in a mobile? Is Class 2 more than enough or should I get a Class 6.

I've got a HTC Desire was looking at 32gb but they are £80+ so going with 16gb but not sure if a Class 2 will do or not

What's everyone else got?

its a speed thing:
Class 2: 16 Mbit/s (2 MB/s)
Class 4: 32 Mbit/s (4 MB/s)
Class 6: 48 Mbit/s (6 MB/s)
Class 10: 80 Mbit/s (10 MB/s)

I suspect the speeds will become more noticeable now Android has A2SD.... If you dont use A2SD then speed is not an issue....

I gather that but it doesnt take much longer to transfer files on a Class 4 compared to a Class 6, but hey, if someone has money to burn for something as non-important as a faster SD card for casual use then go for it.

I picked up a 16gb class 2 and notice no difference in performance from the class 6 8gb card i had in before, its really only the transfer speed where you notice it.

i'm using a class 2 16gb card with apps2sd and dont notice any difference to when the apps were stored on the phone speed wise.

the only time it's slow is when i'm copying large files over to the card from my pc

Some of the custom roms out there put a swap partition on the memory card as well as the apps2sd and Dalvik cache. I believe some of the user comments were that apps launched and ran noticeably faster on class 6 cards when they did that.

I'm not to bothered about the Write speed transfering files onto the card etc It's the read speed I was concerned about does anyone know how much it differ's by Class?

Even the 16gb Class 6 are around £50+

No idea what mine is, nor can i find out from the product code:
SANDISK SDSDQ-016G-E11M Micro SDHC memory card

my class 2 card is write 3MB/s, read 14MB/s according to the "SD card speed tester" app on the market.

dunno if any of my apps were using the card at the same time or if its accurate :)

yep the speed is fine for apps/mp3/divx.

people with faster cards should try that app, to see if the desire can keep up with higher class cards.
