Hi all,

I have a Bosch hammer drill and was wondering, I have loads of standard drill bits from an old non-hammer drill, is there any way these can be used in my drill?

I assume something like this would work?

http://shop.parkerbs.com/makita-p-33788-keyless-chuck--sds-adaptor-1007-p.asp

And if so, will I be able to use the drill on hammer mode with the adapter or not?

I have a feeling I looked into this before and it depended on the adapter, usually it could only be used in standard drill mode?

Can anyone confirm please?

Thanks :)

EDIT: Because something like this is quite cheap, but doesn't say if it can be used on hammer action or not.

Whereas this (below) looks similar and states no hammer action

Your not supposed to use hammer drill on those adaptors but if you buy a cheap one and use it on hammer worse case scenario you'll damage the adaptor chuck or the drill bit what I do is buy a job lot of semi cheap bits and throw away as they wear out.

Hammer action is likely to loosen and damage the screw threads, they will also not be rated for hammer action and will probably be a softer steel. However, if you are not using them frequently, I would not worry. I would imagine damage would not be instant, and you may just not get a lot of life out of it.

I have a cheapo 6quid version of this and it's not great, yours may be better but for that much money you could just get a load of decent ssd bits.

Thanks all

Yeah it has an option to turn hammer off so I think I'll get a cheap-ish adapter, at least it allows me to make use of all the various bits I have from the old drill :)
