A lot of people here probably read Kotaku anyway but thought this might be worth a post.

First time they have really said anything but "no" to a remake.

I don't understand why people want a remake of ff7. They would have to change not only the graphics but update it to todays rpg standards.

I don't think they will spend that much effort on a remake.

They wouldn't be able to resist the urge to tinker with it though, be it to attempt to 'improve' the gameplay (read: dumb it down for mass appeal) or add celebrity songs to the lineup (Hi incredibly out of place ending music to FFXIII!). To me, Square Enix has become a shadow of what Squaresoft once was.

As long as they only updated the graphics and gave every character voices then it would be awesome.

The fight system needs to be the same for sure. FFXIII's is terrible.

Wouldn't mind an addition to the story aswell.

I agree that all it would need is a graphics update and possibly voice acting.

A remake would make them millions more than another new addition to the series.

Part of me has more respect for them because they haven't already remade it to make money as I'm sure they know it would sell a lot of units, just shows they aren't like EA for example who you know for sure would have remade it 3 times already to rake in the money.

Reminder that they remade a hell of a lot of FF games already

FF7 happened a looong time ago. Square-Enix is an entirely different company now, with an entirely different vision of what a game should be. A FF7 remake would be horrible, it wouldn't be the game the fans want, it'd be some CGI and cutscene monstrosity.

No thanks. When I play an rpg, I want to -play- it, I don't want to stare at a cutscene every 4 fights.

I want it, and millions will want it also.

Aslong as it looks as good as FF13, And has the gameplay of the original I'm all for it. Unfortunately some "elitists" Will never be pleased with anything. Computer games have become so damn serious these days lol.
OMG DONT RELEASE FF7 YOU'LL RUIN THE MEMORY OF THE ORIGINAL AND DESTROY MY CHILDHOOD

As for CGI\Cutscene monstrosity, essentially you're saying you want old fashioned text reading cutscenes yes? Because all the cutscenes do now is replace that...

FF7 Cutscenes Theres a URL to the movies and cutscenes in FF7, they have always been there.

I just dont get what you want them to do with cutscenes...Its final fantasy its always been like that, You want them to change how they make final fantasy now? Would you be happier if they were less pretty and you had to press the action button everytime they started a new sentence??

Yes, but I don't think any have been as successful as 7 was? Remaking 7 as so many people seem to want would make them a hell of a lot more money than making a new FF with less work.

Everything they need is already there, they would only need to update the graphics and perhaps add some voice acting and they are done. Still a lot of work but nothing like the amount a new FF would require.

Edit: I should add I'm personally not too fussed about a remake, my favourite has always been FF8.

People complain there is no originality in the gaming industry anymore, yet we scream for re-makes. :D

I would love a re-make, not a tinkered version but a HD version, not bothered about voices Cloud et al will not sound right to how I imagine them to sound, it's part of the charm.

And on the topic of re-makes I want HD Resident Evil 1 & 2 for my PS3/360.

I said nothing whatsoever about being unhappy with them taking the place of the standard press x to continue thing. My gripe is they are all over the battles. Square have purposely put them in between every 3-5 fights. That's the issue I have with the cutscenes. There's far too much of them in the wrong place, they break up the pacing of the battles and half the time they say nothing whatsoever (guess what? HOPE IS STILL ANGRY - ooo nice metal walkway btw). Flashy graphics, with not enough substance. I'm not won over by CGI. In previous games, a CGI sequence marked a pivotal point in the story, they meant something. In 13, they happen at the drop of a hat, and you don't want to skip them in case they contain something important.

How are Square going to remake a fully HD-realised Midgar, Junon, Wutai in the graphical style of FF13? They've gone on record to say that FF13 took them too long because of the HD requirements, and hinted that in future, the things that were missing (towns for example) would be available as DLC.

Dude. This has got nothing whatsoever to do with ruining childhood memories or being an "elitist", and everything to do with their direction and the technical limitations THEY place on themselves.

Advent Children voices were pretty good I thought, then again I never imagined what the characters might sound like before watching it :p

I'd love a Gfx / sound update (the full orchestra version of the FF7 soundtrack is immense) with the option of jap voice overs.

Then, as optional side stuff, have something similar to FFX monster arena, or mark killing, with some great weapon customisation to beat said monsters (but not needed for main storyline to keep "purists" happy). Maybe even side missions within the slums of Midgar, and other towns (again, totally optional).

Don't get me wrong, I frikkin love FF7 as it is, but if they updated it, I personally think they'd be mad not to add some more non-story related end game content.

I'd like to see this, as others have said just as a graphical update and possibly speech (still not sure on that though..). New side quests or side mini-stories would be a bonus too.

if they remake it, it has to be exactly the same locations, music, weapons, everything. no voices, voices will ruin it. call me a purist, but it must be identical, other than a graphics overhaul.

Sorry fella :p My post started out being aimed at you and ballooned into a war piece again the world. I'm being grumpy for no reason :p

I know it'll never look as good as Final Fantasy 13 if they remake it, as the scale would be too much for any modern day engine at the moment. But i still believe it would be great if they did it, and all the cutscenes from the original would have to be made into CGI for there to be any point to remaking it.

I'd also be a fan if they added things, More Zack backstory, more indepth backstory for Cid.
