As some might know these where on hotukdeals the last couple of days i picked one up to replace a 1TB external. I only use it for random stuff so backup or data risk is not really an issue as its all replaceable.
However since i got this drive everything copied over fine and fast but since then ive been having problems. It seems randomly that "something" happens and all drives on my computer become inaccessible, going to my computer just makes it load endlessly.
However disconnecting the 5TB and reconnecting it fixes this for another couple of hours until it happens again. I never had this problem before this drive and after going back to the 1TB i'm not having it any more. Could this be a problem with the drive thats throwing all my hard drives out of whack?

Thanks.

No one? :(

Its really strange all the hard drives in the computer stop working but as soon as i disconnect the 5TB drive everything kicks back in. Is it a way that the 5tb drive could be dying and locking up the other drives or something?

I had this with 2 5tb seagate externals, it even persisted after I took 1 of them out of the caddie to troubleshoot.

Seagate seems to have done something to the firmware of these drives, picked up a toshiba instead, works fine

I have never heard of a external drive causing this. I have the same drive but in 3TB and have no issues at all.

ill try and help out but its a strange issue

if the external drive is faulty it can cause issues when loading the computer shortcut screen where you see all the drives as it will not display the screen until it can read all the drives in the list so disconnecting this allows the screen to load as its not trying to get info from the Seagate drive.

I get the same issue at work when I load the computer shortcut as I have a mapped drive to a place out side of work.

have you tried running disk check on the drive at all? might be worth doing.

take it everything is ok in disk management? failing that it could be the PC having issues from waking up if you leave it connected and step away from the PC for a bit. can try turning off USB suspend in power options

Hi thanks for the replies. The computer doesnt go to sleep and ive disabled USB power management to test too.

It seems Mraerosmith has had the problem i am having?

Ive done segates quick drive check and it come back fine. So at a loss :( MIght just return it to the store and get a different one. I have a samsung 1TB drive that works perfectly and has no issues but as soon as the 5TB is connected it starts to go funny.
