Seagate Backup Plus 3TB
I know a few people here have taken advatage of the recent offers on this item. I was one of those people and I got my unit for the intended purpose of extracting the HD for my server.
I thought I would put up a little guide on dismantling the unit.
'Exploded' view
Note that doing this will invalidate any warranty and probably result in minor damage to the case.
1. Remove the 'foot' of the unit. This is where the power and data connect.
2. Using thin screwdriver or knife remove the 'L' shaped top grille and front (with logo). Do this by inserting the blade between the 'L' and the edge of the case at the back of the unit and gently pushing the 'L' upwards. Work towards the front of the case. Do the same starting at the logo end. The blade can be pushed in right at the bottom.
The 'L' is the bit above part 3 in the picture
3. Seperate the two halves of the case - parts 3 & 4. You need to get your blade under the lip of part 3 and p[lever part 3 away from part 4. There are six clips.
4. The drive (2) will now be visible in it's cage (1). To extract from the plastic case simple get a thin screwdriver between the vents and push the drive cage out.
5. the HD is secured to the cage by four screws underneath the rubber mounts. The mounts can either be removed, or as I did, a hole was cut so I could access the screwhead.
6. The rest is easy and obvious!
I hope this little guide is of some use.
