I've just fitted one of these very fashionable hard drives into my system and I'm very pleased with it. I'm not an overclocker or even a tweaker. My main reason for buying the Seagate was that I was looking for a quieter system. The Seagate replaces a Maxtor 160Mb drive that I bought six months or so ago on the basis of very positive reviews of its performance and noise levels.

These reviews, as per usual, turned out to be wrong. The Maxtor was/is a very noisy drive, the heads make a clacking noise as they seek the data. I bought the Maxtor to replace a two year old Hitachi 120 Gb.

Anyway to the point. The Seagate is a very quiet drive. Just out out idle curiousity I ran the Sisoft Sandra benchmarks on each of the drives in turn. These are the results in my untweaked AMD 64 4000+ system...

Seagate 320 Gb.......64Mbs.

Maxtor 160Gb..........51Mbs.

Hitachi 120Gb..........46Mbs.

Make of this what you will. :)
