hi, is the Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 160GB hd quiet?

Yes, while idle

You will hear it when it seeks etc.

there are quieter drives but it's not too bad.

I'm running one in my rig right now and it does occassionally whirr a little bit. however, they are super reliable.

if you want quiet, i'd recommend a samsung spinpoint. it's quiet even in my external hard drive enclosure.

I agree - if silence is your priority you can't go wring with a spinpoint

seagates are quiestes at idle but spinpoints are slightly quieter when seeking

The recent seagates i have built into systems have definitely been louder (idle and seek) than the spinpoints I have at home (this is comparing 3 samples of each). Just my personal experience, I know from drive to drive variance can be pretty good, but after 6 samsungs I'll be buyng more
