I have a Windows 7 Computer with 2 hard disks, the Barracuda is just my storage drive.

The problem is that when my PC is just idling, the hard disk sometimes starts up for no reason, whirs for a while, then shuts down, its loud enough to be annoying and no program could possibly be using it.

Does anyone know why this might be happening?

How loud is it? The drives will do a re-calibration from time to time so maybe it's this process kicking in?

Its just the usual sound of it whirring up ready for action, spinning at top speed, and after about a minute powering down. Theres no program that could possibly be accessing it, all my programs are installed on the other hard disk. Its only used for storage.

Sounds like it's recalibrating in that case, no idea if this can be changed or quietened to be honest.
