Seagate Desktop FreeAgent 500GB problems

Hi, having problems with the above external USB2 HD, keep getting delayed write failure error, mainly when playing backed up HD content, never had the error while just copying files, microsoft suggest disabled write caching but It's was never enabled to start with.

Any suggestions as to why this is happening?

I'm wondering if it's overheating, but I don't see how unless the HD enclosure is completely unsuitable to sustained usage.

Neithermind, ended up just destroying the enclosure in the process of removing the drive, using it as a normal internal drive now and works great.

But I'm surprised how good the drive actually is, why do they put good drives into external enclosures which are limited by a USB connection, surely a much slower, cheaper drive would have served the same purpose. :confused:

apparently changing the usb port or cable or updating the drivers can fix this issue.

overheating.... lol i could use mine as a bbq it gets that hot...
do yourself a favor and ditch it
