With current game sizes being as they are and not having much money in the bank, are they a good shout?

It will be used as a secondary drive, not a bootable drive.

Thanks.

I wouldnt recommend the Firecuda at all to be honest. Bought a 2TB Firecuda from another retailer a couple of weeks ago and just got around to installing Windows 10 on it today. Everything was going smoothly, Windows 10 almost finished it's installation when the HDD started to make all manner of loud and strange clicking grinding sounds...and then failed. Damn thing is now as dead as disco.

Looking at a refund and buying a 1TB Samsung EVO instead.

We're talking about SSDs here, not spinning rust.
And Seagate 510 is based on Phison E12 controller, which is probably the most widely used controller and used likely by like dozen to 20 brands.
So it's extremely tried tech and unlikely to have design flaws.

The 2TB Seagate Firecuda that the op mentioned isnt really an SSD though, it's a SSHD ie solid state hybrid drive...
