i am after a 200 or 250GB IDE HDD

my MB (abit nf7) doesnt have sata
my xp2500m machine still does what i need it to so cant justify a full upgrade to an opteron system which had onboard sata

from what i read online it appears that seagate are the brand of choice these days

now my question
what is the difference between the .7 series the .8 series and the.9 series

http://www.seagate.com/cda/products...capacity,00.html?interface=&capacity=&system=

thx

Each series brings new features. The .7 is the oldest but still had NCQ. .8 added some more speed and .9 is too new to know but contains general improvements. Best is to go for .9 just for the obvious reason that is contains the most features and is an overall improvement on the .8.

Apparantly the .9 isn't as wonderful as people thought it would be. It's still the best since it is new, but it would seem you aren't really missing out if you've just bought a .8

Yeah. Apparently the .8 beats it in a few areas but still a great drive and overall a better drive. Storagereview noted that didn't it?
