Hello

I'm having an issue with a pair of 4tb Seagate NAS Internal Hard drives I bought in late October last year.

I can't initialize the drives and am also unable to format them.

Bit more info below.

I'm a photographer running an old Mac laptop from 2013.

I have a Lacie 2Big drive that I connect via thunderbolt to my computer.

I've used Seagate NAS drives for quite a while – the pair that's giving me problems is my fifth – and when thye're new always put them into my Lacie unit, format them in disk utility, and am then able to use them.

I'm running equivalent drives in my Lacie without any trouble, so that rules out the issue being to do with the Lacie unit or the connection to the computer.

I'm aware that the drives I've bought from Overclockers could be faulty, but seems pretty unlikely there's a mechanical fault with two equivalent drives that I've bought at the same time...

I've tried formatting the drives through the terminal, makes no difference. Have also tried booting my computer in recovery mode and formatting that way – again, no difference.

Any ideas what the issue could be/what I can do to fix this?

Frustratingly, overclockers aren't answering the phone...

Cheers

Perfectly possible they are both dead.

I once had three drives delivered - all DOA. Must have been mishandled in transit.

You say you bought them in October? They’ve been sat in a box since?

Either way just RMA them to Seagate, were very good last time I used them.
