I was thinking of getting the 500gb Seagate Momentus XT hybrid hard drive but I was wondering if it was worth getting it. I'd probably put my OS & Programs on it, and data on my 1tb WD Sata 6.0gb/s Caviar Black

TBH I wouldn't. Get a reasonably priced SSD or a rapid hard drive, or both. Not sure how that Caviar Black stacks up, guess it is about as fast as the Samsung F3s

The Momentus XT is a great idea, the next iterations of it might be worth a punt

Ive had a Momentus XT and they are worth the money,i used one for a games drive and it was blistering fast for loading games.

I had to RMA mine unfortunately,i then sold the RMA replacement,i just dont trust Seagate drives anymore had so many fail on me.

But to answer you question the Momentus XT is worth it.

You don't know that :P
But still, I was wondering if anyone had used it. I might sell one caviar black though

yes i do. fine, what do you plan to put on the HDD? just OS?
I would go for a cheap SSD as suggested. If you can make your mind up quickly enough, I'll put it in your rig whilst it is still easy to do so without destroying my beautifully managed cables ;)

Also, you'll lose ur OS as u will have to do a full reinstall with a neww SSD rather than use Acronis again

i use mine as a steam drive so games tend to be quick at loading

but i use a standard SSD for my OS/Programs

You really have no idea of what I'm going to be doing, and you haven't seen my games library.
Pr0n? Back when OcUK first got the Momentus XT, I did a lot of review reading and searching on google, and at the time they were awful. They did give a nice speed bump with their 4gb ssd partition, but they failed often. The HDD part often started to make noise after a few months, the ssd part actually got slower the longer you had it, a lot slower than it realistically should have. They may have fixed it now with a firmware update or by altering the product in new batches, I don't know. All I remember was at the time when I was considering buying one, they were a big no-no.

:/ I think I'll stick with my dual caviar blacks (and put them into RAID 0 if I get a new windows license)
Thanks anyway

Well Ive just put one into my work laptop and after 2 days of fiddling with the new win 7 build, its installed and running like a dream.

Its 3 years since I upgraded and it seems like a big leap boot times especially have collapsed.
