Seagate or Samsung ?

Samsung performance, probably also Samsung reliability.. the last few Seagates I've come across seem to have been dodgier than normal. Reliability is really subjective though..

The F3 is certainly the faster drive, but it has been out for less time - so the reliability is less proven.

As for 1TB vs 500GB, I believe the 1TB versions are usually a bit faster.

Speed, not space ^^ I'm interested too as I'm looking for a new drive. I'm probably going for a 500GB as I won't use a TB and am on a budget.

I've looked at charts on a popular particularly chart heavy site and find the F3 has better read/write times, but suffers on interface speed and a few other aspects. Would this mean better or worse REAL WORLD performance? I'm also looking for a drive that is quieter than the fans in my Antec 300, I would rather have something that doesnt increase the sound profile of my machine.. though I'd be ok with a 'signature spinup sound' that I've heard mentioned regarding the T3's.

Thanks , but i read that the new 7200.12 version has put Seagate back up the reliable chart over the 10 version ?

thanks ,so are we talking minimal speed difference or a lot between 500g and 1TB ? F3:confused:

I always observe people looking at the amount of cache as an important factor, a 1TB generally has more cache and is therefore faster as is my understanding. The F3 and 500gb Seagate only come with the 16mb cache option... but I don't think I'll use a TB ontop of the 300gb I already have so it would be never used.

I think I'll have to agree that the reliability is probably unrelated to make especially between the big manufacturers.
