is their a great deal of difference or is it just personal preference ?
speed?
noise?
reliability?

i've always bought wd before because thats what i had first and never had a problem with them. just wondered if i am missing out by not trying other manufacturers(spelling) ?

The 7200.10s are faster but they are also noisier and a few people have complained about the reliability. I don't think it is anything much to worry about but if you are happy with WD then I'd probably say stick with them. :)

Actually it's chance with the 7200.10's. You'll either get a nice quiet one that's fast as hot turd off a well oiled shovel (like mine), or you'll get one that's equally fast but sounds like a poor interpretation of a drunken beatboxer.

thanks.

i hadn't realised that about wd i assumed it was just the increased warranty that was the difference

My opinion on hard drives mainly stems from my own experience, I found that WD's are far more reliable and quieter.

They're very quick in replacing faulty ones as well :)

doesn't the WD RE run a lot better in pears?

as ive bin told thats the only way you get the extra band width
