I have just RMA a 500GB Seagate hard drive that has been sitting in my desk for the last 18 months. I've had to send it back to the Netherlands at a cost of £13.36 , but still cheaper than buying a new drive at current prices.

Any way has anyone RMA a HD to seagate recently? And if so how long did it take.

Makes me wonder if it's worth bothering sending my F3 for replacement!

I think with the current prices of 500GB and 1TB drives it's well worth sending it back. My drive is just a spare and I'm in two minds to sell it when it comes back. ;)

Where was that to, the Coventry place?

Also how do you send them back? Is an anti-static bag and loads of bubble wrap ok?

In the shipping instructions it says "Do not use peanuts, bubble wrap or newspaper." But I have read on other forums people using bubble wrap and not having any problem with their RMA.

I managed to get my hands on a proper HD box with the foam inlay and plastic case to put the HD in.

Just sent back 2 1TB F3's that failed on me too. Cost £9.05 to coventry! Got them second hand but still under warranty for £60 for the pair, so it was a small price to pay for a replacement of drives worth £180 now!
Packed them up individually in antistatic bags (luckily i had 2 spares hanging about) and lots of bubblewrap and some of that carpet underlay for padding on the top and bottom of the box as well as between the drives. Turned out really spongy so plenty of shock absorption :P

*Do not use peanuts, bubble wrap or newspaper.*

if i'd had read that yesterday i'd be pretty worried, but i just got an email today and they have recieved both drives and no charges to me for warranty/RMA voids so ts'all good.

hopefully i'll get them sent back soon.
