For those that have had some experience with them, how strict are they on the packing requirements?

Their official documentation (http://www.seagate.com/support/service/pdf/pack.pdf) seems to highlight the need to do exactly as they tell, but I don't have any of the correct boxes or foam lying around. I was going to use an antistatic bag, bubble wrap, and jiffy bag, but I'm not so sure now.

Cheers for any help.

Well the last drive I received was simply in an antistatic bag and securely wrapped in about 2 inches of bubble wrap! No box, certainly!

I'd RMA to where you bought it from to avoid the hassle.

You don't need the foam, but deffo send it in a box.

When i've returned drives in the past i've static bagged/bubble wrapped, then boxed them.

Lots of RMA places require you to send your stuff back in a box.
