Hi guys, just fitted my H/D, 320 GB version, I know that My Computer doesn't recognise it until it's been formatted. So went into Admin->Disk management and no disk there to format! My 2 IDE drives are there but no SATA. Don't see it in BIOS Either????
Asrock 939 Dual SATA
AMD 4400
1x 120 IDE, 1x 200 IDE
New 320 is for putting Vista on a partition.

Which SATA port are you using, the one perpendicular or one of the ones next to the IDE ports?

Have you got the appropriate port enabled and set to single drive mode in the BIOS?

Does the drive spin up when you boot the PC?

I'm using the red SATA 2 port, the higest on the board.
I've enabled SATA2 in Bios, well, set it to Auto. I did try setting it to enabled but when PC went to "Winows XP" screen it reset with a longer than usual beep???
Power is connected, will have to restart and disconnect other drives to hear.

It's showing SATA, I did change it from IDE.
Other settings are Auto
The drive is spinning and powering up.
It is in BIOS now, but not in Disk Management?
I disconnected it, removed and re-fitted it.
Thanks for the help!

If you look in device manager you may have an unknown device (the SATA controller itself), you'll need to load the drivers for it before Windows will see the drive. Mind you I'm surprised that it wasn't detected when you first enabled it.

also, when set to IDE mode in bios, it should function as if it were on ide, no drivers required. not quite the performance of sata mode, but would still be functional. Theres also a jumper to remove on the drive it self to set sataII mode.

I removed the jumper before I fitted it.
Heres the latest:
First power on, Drive is shown on boot screen,
When it gets to the "Windows XP" loading screen, it beeps once, then restarts.
If I have SATA II set to Enabled in BIOS it loops doing this reset. If I have it set to Auto, it does it once, then on restart, SATAII drive is missing on boot screen.
I can only get it to re-appear if I turn off PC and disconnect drive, re-connect then boot again. I've never managed to get it to boot to windows with the drive being shown on boot screen.
I've downloaded JMicron SATAII driver from Asrock site but no change.
No sign of drive or driver in Management
My sense of humour has failed completely now!

Maybe updating the bios will fix an incompatability, 2.30 being latest for the dual sata board.

might be worth checking the hd is seledted as primary in bios boot settings and if the drive still wont boot on the sata2 in ide mode, press f11 on the post screen to see if it appears as a bootable option in that boot list.
