Seagate Vs Samsung

I own both and you wont be dissapointed with either.
The samsungs are slightly quieter but if you have a decent case then you will hardly hear either

i wouldn't even trust a seagate as a paperweight :/ seen nothing but problems with them over the years

i've got 9 samsung drives all been 100% solid, just like my WD drives

I have had 9 seagate drives, 4 PATA and 5 SATA, which range from about 1-7 years old and not had any problems with any of them. I find seagate to be the most reliable, especially since they have been around a hell of a lot longer than samsung in the HDD industry!

Went for a 320GB WD 2.5" notebook drive though as seagate didn't have anything this size, fingers crossed.

I have owned WD, Maxtor, Seagate and recently a 500GB Samsung drive and have not ever had a HDD fail on me yet. Most peoples comments are based on personal experience from a very limited number of samples (ie only the HDD they have used).

Having said it is possible that either Samsung or Seagate will die on you - look at the above comments as proof. The Samsung drive is quiet and runs cool but the 5 year warranty on the Seagate is also attractive - which do you prefer of those differences should determine which drive you purchase.

I have no qualms about recommending Seagate.

Have proved to be the most reliable hard drives I've come across over the last 10+ years.

Out of the above whats the quietest.

Are the Seagates loud as ive heard generally Samsungs are quiet

depends on the model and the mounting methods, no one brand is quieter across the whole product line.

samsung generally have less seek noise but probably more vibration...it's never an easy answer :)
