I am in the market for a new 3'5 sata hard drive for my NAS.

Around 2tb should do.

I have been looking at the two below:

Western Digital Caviar Green 2TB SATA - WD20EARX

&

Seagate Barracuda 2TB - ST2000DM001

I have not bought a new hard drive for years so not sure which is the better brand.

Any help guys?

I would suggest to go for the western digital caviar green as one of my friend has bought this and he is well satisfied with it so far.

I have had several of seagate's drives fail on me recently, all of my Western Digitals are still going strong. My vote goes to the WD's

That Seagate is silent and surprisingly fast. The only time i hear a peep out of mine is for a second when booting the PC, after that no matter what i throw at them be it unraring 20GB files, being thrashed via torrents, whatever there's not been a single noise. If you have windows set to power them down after X minutes i imagine you'd hear them when they spin up again but that would be it, i just leave mine on all the time.

Haven't had the WD greens and anything i'd say about them would be what i've read, so others that have actually had them can comment.
