What's the scaling like on CF 5850s these days? I don't follow graphics cards tbh. Dilemma is I don't want to upgrade for a year + and I'm eagerly awaiting BF3

Other spec is

AMD Phenom II X6 1055t 95w @ 3.75 (not had time, I'm sure it'll do more)
4GB DDR3 1600MHz
Asus M4A89GTD Pro (might take a Bulldozer according to Asus... :D)
Reference 5850 @ stock. Clocks VERY well but sounds like a hoover at 70c :(
500w OCZ modextreme (700w coming from RMA replacement)
1920x1080 Dell S2409W

Drop a ton on another 5850 or sell up and get something else? 6950 hardy seems worth it... Most of the CF benches I've seen are quite old, hasn't the newer drivers improved this somewhat?

The 6850's scale better than the 5850's and have better performance in tessellation. One gtx 480 soc or hd 6950 would be the better option imo. You'll experience less problems such as games not supporting xfire/sli at launch.

Edit: Didn't realise you already had one , buy another 5850 and you'll get 580 performance.

They do scale better but I have one already :p

Just seen your edit while replying

Not much in it, 5850 CF seem to be a shade better in Frostbite...

5850 CF seems to stomp on a single 6950, how reliable are these Anand benches?

definately +1 on 5850 crossfire, I have heard loads of people recommend them. They're definately one of the better Xfire cards that scale well

go for 5850 but get a full length one . the ones on offer on o/c arnt the full fat 5850 in my opinion .

What are the differences ? i have a Sapphire one that i bought last January and i was thinking of maybe getting one for crossfire

My reference does 850 on stock volts (1.087) with 1150 vram. Gets a bit warmer though. Would love a full water setup but can't justify the cost to myself or 'er indoors
