I currently run bf3 on ultra settings at about 35-50 fps at 1920x1600, wondering whether getting another 7950 for crossfire will improve my framerates enough to make it worth it... (And would I notice it I suppose).
CPU is a 2600K @ 4.6.

hi, is your 7950 overclocked? if yes those frame rates seem a little low to me. of course if you buy another 7950 and crossfire you will see a big jump in frame rates, but does bf3 really run that badly that you need one? i have 7970 and my system eats bf3 at 1920x1200 res and from what i have read there is only a small difference in performance.

Yeah I am oc at 975 and 1350, that's as high as I can go without a voltage increase.

My average fps is 48 so it's not too bad, only it drops during a firefight to about 30ish and that's when I need decent fps- often I start shooting first but always die, wondering if I'm loosing that split second reaction time that extra frames bring... (And it's not that I'm just rubbish!).

What AA are you using? if you are using 4XMSAA I would try to drop it down to 2XMSAA or even FXAA to see if you notice a difference in performance.

Also give that 7950 a little more voltage and try and overclock it some more if you have decent enough temperatures.

Also worth mentioning that your motherboard might result in no performance gain at all? Someone may correct me if I'm wrong but my particular board (Asrock 970 Extreme4) operates at x8 speed for each device if you put two cards in.

I'd strongly suggest trying to get that 7950 up to 1050-1100mhz before you splash out on another card.
Upping the voltage won't fry your card unless you're very adventurous.

Personally, I'm at 1150mhz/1400/1.13v and BF3 runs like a dream with or without AA :)

Btw, 1920x1600?

Duh 1920x1200... I've not actually got a magic screen :-P

I'll have a go at upping the voltage tonight, I have the windforce 7950 so temps aren't an issue.

Will also have a play about with the MSAA settings, it's just I like to set everything to max!

I have a Asus P8P67 Pro MB and it does run at x8 with two cards in place, but I've read that this isn't an issue- that x8 is fast enough for the current gen of xfire.

x8 is fine, x4 is to be avoided ;)

Try 2xMSAA with high FXAA or either one by itself. 4xMSAA is barely noticeable over 2x and isn't worth the fps penalty imo.
