Has anyone else noticed the rapidly increasing prices of second hand cards on ebay? Checked this morning for RX480's and most of the prices are substantially higher than right here on OCUK, I suppose it shows the value given here!

More likely shows people are willing to pay stupid prices for them on ebay

I wouldn't buy second hand GPU's, to me it's not worth it, the prices are too high. Makes me laugh how folks complain about new card prices yet expect top £ selling their used tat. I tried to buy a used 780 Ti once to pair up with another I already owned just after they became obsolete but the seller wanted new 980 price for it and said I was taking the **** with my offer which I thought was fair and even though I wholly justified why my offer was x amount (old tech, possibly no warranty, been used for a year etc etc). To me it's worth stumping up the extra and getting brand new silicon with a first owner warranty and personally think any graphics card just a month or so old should be in the region of 30% less than it's new price if selling used, depending on a few things of course (ie, if low stocks new).

Used cpus are worse. 3770k are nearly as much as they were when new
Was going to mention CPU's. I know CPU technology hasn't made huge steps forward but come on, the early 3770k's are now 5 years old. I bought one soon after release and still have it, from Feb 2012. Must admit as I don't use it much now I'm tempted to auction it off to let the market set it's price along with the Samsung green memory that many seem to have an affection for
.The 3770k is a good processor but the small changes each gen do make a difference and at 5 years old it really could just fail! Persoanlly I reckon it's worth 80 quid max
. RUn at 4.1ghz most of it's life probably is detrimental too.

Some people are greedy but some are very reasonable. Bought my GTX1080 with waterblock and EK backplate second hand for £495.
Risky spending so much second hand but it was also about 200 less than it would cost new. Which seemed fair.
Some of the low ball offers people make on members market are a bit cheeky though.

ebay is a bit of a joke for the majority dont understand the real prices things sell for.
there is the listed price or prices put on and then there is the actual price people pay for a item.many of ebay prices are ridiculous or shill bidding up by mates someone then legit bids on it then it sells.if the shill bid doesnt sell its relisted.
realistically anyone with any sense wouldnt pay about £150 2nd hand for a one when you can get them for less than £200 new. the thing is not everyone is internet savy or clued up and some just like to think they done a deal and just buy.

I think it must just be the prices on here being so good for 480's then. Ive seen the same cards for almost £300, tried looking for a 1060 too and they are holding value really well. Now I know these are relatively new cards but to be selling above retail is crazy.
There's nothing really to match the size of ebay here that I know about. There's Gumtree which is a very simplistic selling site which you can list in certain areas. So for example I can post in my local city area so I'm much more likely to get someone locally buy it, although there's nothing to stop you looking in other areas if you are willing to travel or can get people to post items.
I pretty much stopped using ebay years ago due to the silly prices, fees and constantly getting sniped in bids.

The Members Market is the only place I look, I wouldn't dream of buying from Ebay. The prices on the MM are fine and the negotiating is what you would expect from second hand market where haggling is permitted.
Low ball offers? Big deal, unlike Ebay the seller in the MM is under no obligation to conclude the deal at any price with any person. Also, the MM permits the seller to sell to a lower offer if they have reason to (better Trust rating etc.)
I also value the OCUK Trust system over the Ebay feedback farce.
The reason prices are buoyant is because the cost of GPU's like 1080's are edging beyond the affordability threshold for many people, so the second hand market will benefit from the increased demand.

People will pay stupid prices because some people do lack common sense. Ive just sold me strix 970
this morning for a grand sum of £145. I thougjt i would advertise high with a view.of someone haggling but low and behold. Ad went up at 9am today. Phone call by 10am. Sold by 12pm.

Anything I list for sale I put up for more than I want so there's room to be haggled down, although it can have the down side of putting some people off sometimes.
Should hopefully get access to the MM sometime next year, assuming they don't change the requirements again

Well, if they're coming to your place to collect it, after the trade is done walk outside and look at your windows then tell them "my windows must be bigger than I thought they were because I saw you coming"
Regarding low ball offers in the MM, I think there's a rule about doing so - it's frowned upon. I don't know why people have a problem with it although I suppose it does polute the for sale thread, so yeah, can kind of understand it. I'd just politely say "No thanks" if any offers too low.
I only use Ebay for selling and really hate using it these days. Only had a few issues but makes you feel like you could do a "Dexter Morgan" on them

If you threw darts at a dart board whilst blind folded, you'd hit a bullseye eventually. Prices generally find their level when there are more than one person interested.
I always know if I've bid too low because someone would generally step in afterward and seal the deal with a higher bid. The opposite is also true. I bid what I deemed to be a fair price for a 1070 last week, and I provided reasons why I came to that bid (you don't get that on Ebay). The buyer was adamant that I was "selling the card short". It's still for sale, and the seller has offered it to someone for £5 more than I was bidding, and that buyer has passed... so, ergo I must have bid a fair price after all.
As a new forum member I dont have access to the members market yet unfortunately so ebay, facebook and gumtree are my go to places. However, I have had some good bargains this week on my quest for a budget second build. Its just the elusive GPU bargain that is slipping through the net. Im dissapointed I missed the £199 deal earlier in the week for the 480.
I've seen them going for a bit more than that tbh. I sold 2 separate 980's 3 weeks ago for £245 & £225. Cards were immaculate but a few years old... 970's seem to be around the £175 mark when I last looked.
