I currently have a BT fibre optic broadband connection. I would like to be able to use 2 different IP addresses off of this one connection.

Am I right in saying that I simply need to introduce a second router? I have 2 different ADSL ports in the house.

any advice appreciated.

Are you referring to a second WAN address, the IP address BT give you? If so, generally speaking for residential connections, one contract means one IP address at any one time.

Or simply adding more devices to your home network?

External IP address?

One dsl connection per phone line, your provider might be able to give you an IP range rather than a single IP.

What are you actually trying to achieve?

Before you ask BT for a second IP address.

Why do you need a second one? What are you trying to achieve? Is port forwarding out of the question for your use?

Without giving too much away, I play a specific MMORPG game, and I also use bots for said MMORPG game. I would like the 2 accounts to be as separate as possible, I.E by using 2 machines and 2 different connections.

Is that achievable from one household?

It's achievable, but since it's cheating you won't get much help.

Besides, even with different IPs, most games have gotten smart enough to still identify you.

And a second router won't work, both routers will simply fight over each other for control over the broadband, assuming both phone sockets are connected to the same line.

I don't condone cheating if that's what you're wanting to do, but I would have thought a second machine on your network using a VPN service would present itself as being on a different IP and be much cheaper and need less know how to do.

You definitely don't want a second router but what you describe would need a more advanced router to handle multiple IPs than most consumer kit.

This, either VPN one PC or get an EE 4G dongle and use that on one PC.

You wouldn't want a static or multiple IPs from BT anyway. Don't they charge monthly where most providers provide a one off charge.

What are you looking to do get a box to PAT out using a different address ?

Just use a VPN
