Second Monitor Not Active.

I have recently purchased 2 monitors and want have them runnin dual screen but for some reason wen i go to set my second monitor up it just resets to having the secondary monitor as not active.

I go into the settings, right click on 2, and click "Attached" and then tick extend my desktop onto this monitor, but when i click apply it just sets monitor 2 as not active and then unticks extend my desktop.

Any ideas from anyone?
