second x2 review

Yeah, why sell at the price of 2 3870XT's when you can put them up for £300 and have people whine?
Edit: Sure I read on Dailytech that $400 was what was expected, not $500, this would be more like it.

Dailytech said:
AMD's embargo ends tonight at midnight, but various other publications that hold no NDA schedules can purchase the card and write about it.

So tomorrow for the card then?

According to THG this morning they were meant to be retailing at $549... they are out in China atm retailing at $499...

The HD 3870X2 has a suggested retail price in the $449 to $499 range (USD), but you can expect that early prices for the new video card will be higher.

Same is echoed on many other sites.

Dunno if its got anything to do with drivers now, places are reporting that it could have been delayed as stocks are yet to hit all parts of the world.

I don't get that, thre should be millions of them, AMD said they could have released it back in December as it was ready, so you would think if the cards have been ready for months, they would have shipped them out in time, dear god, if thats true who the hell is in charge, the keystone ******* cops. :D:D

I don't understand why they don't release some details a few days before, then reviews a couple of days later, and then a hardware launch a couple of days after that.

That way the performance is known, the price is known, and there's less of the "chaos" of the launch day.

I'm sure there's some reasoning behind it as well, but I wish I knew what it was. You'd have thought that reviews would appear a week or two before release to get people interested and then the product hits the shelves to be swept up into the eager arms of hardware enthusiasts. I know that both AMD and nVidia got a good slating for the paper launches of the 6800 and X800 cards, but that still shouldn't prevent them from permitting reviews a few days in advance and stating publicly what the release date is (in such a way as to not impact sales of current models for too long).

Whats going on now is AMD having problems?

Well apparently delayed due to them still shipping them out, but why they left it so late is anyones guess if true, if they said they could have released them in December, then surely they would have had ample stocks build up then, wtf, turning into a right fiasco this.

I'm not sure how they can be delayed as as far as I know ATi have never actually set a date.

Or is Fed/Inq gospel truth now?

truth be told you guys aint got a chance of getting it for 250 - 260 its going to be atleast 290-300 - Im even expecting 330. the argument? it beats nvidia cards. you can say "price & performance!" all you want but end of the day - its cheaper than an ultra, it beats an ultra - quit whinging. If it comes in at 300? I will be happy. I will prob buy 2 too. but end of the day the price is determined buy performance not by whats inside. I really dont think ati are worried what you think as more to "profit profit profit". they can sell it at 300/330 and people will still buy the, heck I would because its the best card atm and still cheaper than nvidias best.

Dunno, but if they are saying all the partners are ****** off now as they were ready for today, but AMD have now told them to delay to the 28th, then surely thats gota be true, unless thats crap as well, even those doing the reviews are kicking off now as they had their reviews ready for today.

Hilbert from Guru confirms AMD have postponed it till the 28th now, as he posted in as thread about it that his review would be up today, but then he posted he can't till the 28th as AMD have now delayed it.

LOL! Hell knows they need the money... i'm pretty sure that aquisition debt is still hanging over them.

In fact, that debt is probably why we haven't seen a competitor to the 8800 Ultra for so long - the extreme high end has high R&D costs, and doesn't sell that many compared to other price ranges.
