SECRET CINEMA PRESENTS BACK TO THE FUTURE IN LONDON

Ever fancied attending the ‘Enchantment Under the Sea’ dance? Or heading to Hill Valley in 2015 to catch a glimpse at a hoverboard? Well know you’ll get your chance, as Secret Cinema is bringing Back to the Future to life in London this summer.

In what will be the biggest live cinema event ever staged in the UK, Secret Cinema will “build the town of Hill Valley and transport audiences into a richly detailed imagined world. Audiences will travel back in time and become citizens of Hill Valley living between 1955 and 1985, with secret alleys and entrances in the town that will allow them to travel to 1985 and 2015.”

As with previous Secret Cinema events – which have included experiential screenings of The Shawshank Redemption, Blade Runner, Top Gun and the like – the first half of the evening will immerse audiences in the Back to the Future world, while the second half will consist of a screening of BTTF. On top of that, there will also be a ‘Battle of the Bands’ contest and an ‘Enchantment Under the Sea’ after-party at a nearby location.

Secret Cinema Presents Back to the Future will run from July 24 to August 10, with tickets sold through the official website from 1pm BST tomorrow (June 4).

I've been to a couple of the Secret Cinemas (Prometheus, Casablanca, Shawshank Redemption, Brazil). They are very good, but the cost of them is getting very expensive. Its now around £60 a ticket which when you consider you'll be buying food and drink on site, as well as getting your costume together it can easily turn in to £100 per person which is just too much.

Will see how much the tickets are for BTTF and see how much it comes in at.

*edit* just looked at the site £53, but there will likely be an additional booking fee on top of that

Did anyone here have tickets to this over the weekend? It has been crazy watching the melt down going on over at Facebook. They had issues getting Brazil up and running too so clearly they haven't learnt from previous events. Think it might be getting a little to big for its boots.

We were due to be going tonight. It was for my girlfiends birthday, and two of our friends have come down from Leeds. At least we got 24hrs notice and could arrange a plan B. As it was we were going to the Ealing jazz festival tomorrow, so we've just gone today/tonight too.

We're pretty gutted but some of the comments on FB etc have been way over the top. Having said that giving people 90mins notice (after telling them not to bring phones) is pretty unforgivable. And I'm sorry but the people saying they've flown over from the States to go.. Err what planet are they on?!

It will be tough to rearrange as I work shifts and our friends live in Leeds, but if not we'll just have to get a refund. Shame :(

Gutted I never knew about this, but glad I've not parted with any money.

Reading the comments in Facebook is hilarious.

I can't imagine it would have been as good as I would want it to be though.

Got tickets for a few weeks time. So far not been affected by the cancellations but it's still dampened my enthusiasm and I'm feeling a bit annoyed at giving money to a company that treats its customers so badly. They really couldn't have got the PR any worse if they tried.

I tried and fail to get tickets when they went on sale, then managed to get them when they released more for the final date. So while it looks likely I will get to go, it does seem that the whole thing is a bit of a let down thus far.

They are citing that some of it is down to satisfying local inspectors, but I think there is also evidence that its not ready, so would likely look very embarrassing if they open something half arsed.

Either way though, I don't think it bodes too well for their future, as it looks like they had to have quite a blessing from Universal for this.

After saying that everyone who had to reschedule would get their first choice of new date, they've told me I can't change my tickets to Sat 16th because its sold out..

I've got 4 tickets, 2 are for friends that came down from Leeds. So not will they have to buy another set of train tickets, but if we can't go on a Saturday night they'll have to get time off work. Sigh. I was so pleased to get the Sat night too...

Having now been I'd say it was certainly good and lots of fun but all in pretty pricey.

They recreated the central part of town including shops, bars, the high school. You can spend a couple of hours before the film exploring, watching bands, getting some food / drink. Actors playing the main characters and lots of supporting ones are always walking round and looking to interact with people. Biff and his crew "picked" on a few people in the queue.

When the film starts about 9pm everyone gathers on the grass (AstroTurf) to watch and as the film takes place various scenes are simultaneously recreated around you. It works pretty well.

Only potential downside is the cost. It's £50 for tickets and you'll probably spend £30+ on food and drink (330ml Budweiser cans were £4, cocktails £6, burgers £8 but they were made by Byron at least). Not to mention £6 if you want a disposable camera, plus the cost of a costume. Almost everyone was dressed up in generic 50s gear, a handful went as the doc or Marty but looked a little silly as actors were playing those roles.

I went last Sunday and have to say it was excellent. I haven't got time to write a full review but regarding the price of stuff I was pleasantly surprised. By some of the whinging I'd expected to pay £5 a drink and £10 a burger, but the prices they had there were just normal 'festival' prices. Nothing mind-blowingly expensive to be honest.

As much as I enjoyed it, I wish even organisers in London would remember that the Tube stops running earlier on a Sunday. Our group (and huge pile of people) were up and out the gates to Stratford barely before the credits started rolling. I would have liked to stay in have a boogie in one of the bars for an hour or so, but I also wasn't prepared to pay£60 for a cab back to west London! Why couldn't they just start it earlier?!

I'd say about 95% of people were dressed up, yeah! If you're really stuck just find a pair of braces and wear jeans and a white T-shirt? Or get a cardigan and bow tie? Its pretty easy.

Make sure you get in as soon as you can, in fact don't pay attention to your alloted slot - it doesn't mean anything!
