Secret Cinema Presents : Back To The Future

We went opening night (well the revised opening night after the first week was cancelled) and it was awesome! Was myself my girlfriend a good friend and his girlfriend.
They all had their hair done in the 'salon' down Hackney Road. We did make the effort (bloody braces meant I had a permanent wedgy!)
The evening was AMAZING! Couple of the female actresses kinda attached themselves and later took the girls off to make coursages (sp?) left us twiddling our thumbs.
As said above the food and drink was biblically expensive; £3 for a can of coke. Given you can't bring in your own food and drink and was rather warm kinda stung a little. Also queue in the diner was so long I was nearly considered lost by my friends who were gonna call a lost persons announcement!!!
Couldn't stay till the end cos the last train back to Newbury was half 11 (which we missed anyway so trained back to Reading via Waterloo which was a PITA).
Recommended all day long! Just have fairly deep pockets and hope its a good day

That sounds brilliant! Secret cinemas sound amazing! Would be fantastic to go to one!

It can be, though isn't to everyone's tastes... some of the events (the original concept) the film itself is kept secret as well as the venue - they've shown some rather good old films but not everyone has been happy with them.

For example they showed the battle of Algiers in the tunnels underneath Waterloo, the red shoes in a disused shopping centre near Wapping that was made to look like Covent Garden etc..

Both good films but not exactly well known by everyone...

It's cool they are showing classics though! Do many people turn up?

Yes, it's not so 'secret' anymore.

Back to the Future was essentially a month long event (despite the delayed opening problems), so it shows how its grown.

It's much like the Secret Garden Party festival in that it started as a fairly independent and underground movement, which aimed to offer a different experience. As things like this grow, you can argue that they start to lose that as they become more commercial.

It will be interesting to see what they do next, as they received a lot of negative publicity with the opening of this event. Also BTTF is a very popular franchise, so unlikely that they will have anything quite so big in the forthcoming future and no doubt Studios and rights holders are probably a little dubious about granting licences given what I already mentioned about negativity.

Apocalypse Now or MASH would be entertaining :D
