Hi guys,

I want to create a decent backup of my data. Currently I have a 120gb drive and a 30gb drive. I want to get a 250gb drive to replace both of these and use the 120gb as a backup drive and the 30gb as a paging drive.

Now my idea is to just connect the 120gb when i need to backup or put it in an external case and connect via usb. Also i will backup the most important data onto good quality DVD-RWs.

Is this a good idea, if I keep the 120gb in my case but not connected will it be safe enough for a long time? Also will good quality DVD-RWs be ok for a number of writes?

Also what is the best make of drive for my replacement? I was thinking either WD, Seagate or Samsung.

thanks

daven

If you only want to use the 120Gb as a backup drive then you'd be better off putting it in an external caddy. That way you'll be able to turn it off as and when you need it, if you left it in the case you'd need to shut down every time you wanted to power it up or down.
