Have thrown together a decent pc ~no gpu but got integrated
From parts I had lying around
I intend to sell it

But I want to secure erase the sm951 M2 nvme
As its had my data on it
Problem is Samsung do not support these as they say they are OEM only
Even though bought from a retailer
Magician doesn't support them
Parted magic fails to be boot able for some reason
Any good ideas?
Not looking to write a load of zeros multiple times on it as not good for ssds
But to actually restore it to factory state
Understand its done by some command that sends a voltage spike to the cells?

thanks will read through that
trying parted magic again
which is basically a linux live distro with a tool to do it
but the latest free version is a bit old and throwing a wobbly at my x570 when get to setting up devices
if doesnt work this time will download knoppix or something and try that guide

seems any distro should do and grab this app https://tinyapps.org/docs/nvme-secure-erase.html

thanks for that too
chose parted magic as understood it had a gui tool to do it
but just going to reboot into parted magic now if it hangs again then yeah will grab knoppix etc
knoppix just cos its small so quicker to get
been a while since did linux but sure i can figure it out if got no graphical user interface
just got lazy with windows as dont need to use cmd very often just point and click

Not forgot this post
Live Linux wouldn't work
As it needs to fetch stuff from repositories and reboots to install them
So tried persistence partition
But it threw a wobbly over that too
Tried virtual machine but turns out latest amd cpus/Motherboards there's some sort of issue with virtual machines
Guessing I have to remove or disable hyper v and something else
Will get there in the end though lol

Think I got there in the end
Multiple Linux distros
But seems to have worked with
Manjaro linux
And combination of nvme~cli
And hdparm
Afterwards I encrypted it too
Then formatted encrypted drive
Then repeated that step
Seems over the top lol
But can't be too careful
Going to try data recovery on it later to see if it really worked
If not then just going to keep the M2 after all
