Had a few break-ins on the estate I live on and most of them have got in via the patio doors. I've looked about online and the security is typically over the handles or poles to stop the doors sliding. Neither are applicable for mine... So anyone got any ideas? Don't really want a chain around handles - something that looks nice ideally!!

At my old house, they got in through the patio door as it wasn't aligned properly on the hinges. They pulled the bottom of my locked shed door open and used a branch from a nearby tree to hook a spade out. They used this under the door to lift it up and effectively render the multi point lock useless! Quite clever how they did it really. The police were stumped on how they got in as there were no signs of anything being forced, it wasn't until I found the branch in the shed and the spade by the gate that I worked it out. Luckily the insurance company paid out still despite them trying to get out of it. I since check all my doors every so often to make sure they're still aligned properly.

They will either smash the window or use a spade to open the doors, you need security film (which will probably do very little unless fitted under the beading) and some shootbolts.

Doors like that are a massive liability, but you could replace them with something much more secure from the likes of Rockdoor.

Yup they will, I hate to sound like a broken record as I already stated in the other thread but laminate glass is really your only 99% guarantee that they won't get in.

Cheers for the suggestions... Getting the builders to switch out the panels as they're scratched anyways, but will speak with the window company to see if they can do anything when fitting. Cheers!

I'm dealing with the builder. Bad enough to get them to replace the windows, let alone ordering something different. Would be a nightmare!

One of those cycle locks over the handles. A neighbour used to do this back in the day.
