Hi guys,

We've got Server 2008 running in our small office, with all of our management files etc in one folder on the server.

We need to be able to easily access these files anywhere on the internet, without installing additional software to client PCs etc.

To be honest - we are looking for something like FTP, but more secure as we have some of our finance docs etc there.

Any good methods, or any way to secure FTP?

Thanks,

Mal

You can use SSL with FTP, real easy to setup, g6ftp for 25 users is about $30 and theres stacks of ftp client out there that support SSL.

At my last job i setup a cheap and cheary ftp server on a HP P4 laptop 2GB ram windows XP and G6FTP in ssl mode.

It easily flooded a 10Mbit Les with around 300 concurrent users.

SFTP is a bit more fiddly for the clients as you can't just wang an address into IE.

If you are using Outlook Web Access you should be able to access shares through that with a little configuration.

Maybe a SSL VPN too? You can get some free ones which are *nix based or buy an SSL VPN applicance.

Thanks guys. We used Sharepoint services 3 but it didn't suit our needs because when in the office we just want normal folder views.

We are running Exchange 2007 if that helps.

We also have a Sonicwall TZ180 firewall if that helps!

Would be interested to know how we can share the folder and view it in OWA 2007?

Thanks,

Mal

Update - Have just looked into the OWA 2007 Direct File access. Have set it up but I see it only supported read only access, so would have to download the file the PC, edit, then upload, which is what we don't want.

Thanks!

Mal

The TZ180 should give you 5 VPN licenses, just whack the global VPN client on the laptops and get them to VPN when they need access?

Does MS Groove not suit your needs apart from the extra apps to install (its part of the office suite). Else, knock up a website run from IIS where users can browse and upload / download.
