Republic in the Bullring have left a tag on. It's a good 30 minute drive away plus £3 parking. Should they be paying these expenses?

Sorry for the crap thread, just want to know if I have any right to ask for the money back, before I make a scene if they refuse.

Grrr pain in the arse... :p

They'll claim that you should have checked before leaving the store. Hard to argue against that tbh (though possibly not impossible).

Had this happen to me once in Disneyland, Florida. I noticed it while packing to come home. That would have been a somewhat expensive trip to get it removed, but fortunately there was a Disney store at Orlando airport. :)

It'll be the type that pins through the clothes (and possibly releases a permanent ink dye if you try to force it off). They usually don't have RFID chips in them, so don't set off store alarms.

The girl folded and bagged the two tops, so I'm hardly going to take them back out and unfold them.

Yes, the alarm did go off. I walked back and handed the bag to the security bloke who checked through and wafted it past the sensors again. Then told me it wasn't me.

It's not so much the money, just the fact I've got to waste the morning going back, so want something for my trouble.

Don't be daft, want something for your trouble... It was an honest mistake I'm sure and if you take it back they will remove it.

Yes because having to get up early, to waste petrol sitting in the rush hour rat race to Birmingham, then get back for work in time, is no trouble at all is it? :/

Take it off yourself tbh, if it's just a simple one with plastic on one side and the pin through the other, grab yourself a decent magnet and 2 secs later your done. Thats all it will take. ;)

Edit: If it's like the one in the link above then yeah take it back :p

It's the store's fault if the tag isn't removed, there should not be any blame on the customer.

My mother once bought an expensive dress from Debenhams (I think it was) which had one of the ink filled security tags on it. She took it away with her on holiday and it was only when she unpacked it from the case that she realized that it had the tag on it, which made wearing it impossible.

She returned to the store after the holiday and the sales assistant removed it. She explained that it was annoying that she had to come back to the store to have it removed and that it was dissapointing that she had taken it away to use on a holiday and then couldn't. So after speaking to a manager, she was given a gift voucher.

So when you take the item back, I would recommend speaking to a senior member of staff (the most I'd imagine you will get is a gift voucher, no store is going to hand out cash) as the manager will then be making sure to remind staff to check all tags are removed before bagging an item.

Got an old hard drive lying around? They contain, very strong magnets

BeatMaster :D

My parents bought me some jeans when they were back in the uk and one of those tags was still on a pair. No chance of me taking them back to the store to get the tag off, so took them out the back with my hack saw and was very careful. It worked no problems and the jeans are totally fine. I was scared all the paint would explode and go everywhere but was really easy to get the tag off.
