Hi,

I got all the security updates yesterday but have also had a .NET framework 2.0 security update sitting there waiting to be installed.

I have tried installing it on shutdown, installing it normally, rebooting, checking all .NET framework services are running etc. but just can't get it to install.

I have been onto the actual Microsoft update site and downloaded and tried to install it from there but that doesn't work either, so I went to trouble shooting on the problem but that wasn't much help :(

Any idea why this update might be failing please?

[Edit]
I have also tried downloading the .exe update from the Microsoft site. That didn't work either - it didn't give any errors, the update just didn't install :(

Thanks,
Craig.

Have you had a look in the Event Viewer to see if anything is logged in there?

Not sure mate as I have not had to run it. I just done a search on the Microsoft newsgroup and found this was the thing to do. I doubt you would need to re-install the framework, might be wrong though. Although I would assume it will warn you before it does.

means you just double click it once and it installs without user intervention ;)

its the ms one, but with a different installer and the hotfix installs straight after

literally thousands of people use ryanvm's files, anyone that makes unattended xp install discs will know :D

OK, cool. I'll uninstall my current .NET 2.0 and install ryanvm's version then :)

Ok think I have found a solution for you.

First of all make sure you are not using any BETA versions of .NET 2.0 - If you are not using any BETA of .NET 2.0 then you will need to download this:

http://astebner.sts.winisp.net/Tools/dotnetfx_cleanup_tool.zip

Unpack this and run it then re-boot your PC, re-install .NET security fix.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for that, will come in handy sometime in the future.

Thanks,
Craig.
