hi just wondering are there any free IDP firwalls avaliable on linux?

also if a computer had 2 ethernet ports and one is connected to a router for internet acess, can a second comuter connected to the other ethernet port be protected from viruses and spyweare with the first computer running a IDP application?

You could run IPCop - http://www.ipcop.org (firewall) together with Copfilter - http://www.copfilter.org/ for firewall and virus scanning all internet traffic. Bear in mind that the virus scanning will make your internet feel slower.

And to answer your question, yes - you would just need to set your gateway to be the 'firewall computer'. You could also disable DHCP on your router and enable it on IPCop.


There's also SmoothWall - http://www.smoothwall.org/ which I haven't used personally (IPCop was originally a fork of smoothwall).
