Seemingly major problem at work...

So yesterday, Just as I'm getting ready to leave work for the day, my line manager comes into my office, and says he's been ordered to confiscate my keys, and has to escort me to the Head managers office.

I was rather confused, but I do as he says, and follow him to the office, where I'm told (and this is literally all I've been told) there's been an incident, and while it's investigated, I'm suspended for the rest of the week, and I shall recieve a letter and phone call to explain what's going on later in the week.

I asked a couple of times while I was there what was going on, and why I was being suspended, but they refused to tell me, and then had my line manager get me to collect my belongings, and escort me off site.

Can they do that? I have no idea why I've been suspended, As far as I know I've done nothing wrong, and knew nothing about any of this until I was in the managers office.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Have you been

1) On this forum during work hours?
2) Thieving (even those couple of old Windows XP disks that no-one would ever miss)?
3) Asking the lovely looking girl from Accounts out time and time again even though she keeps on saying 'no'
4) Surfing t'net all day

..? Just early thoughts about common-done stuff that can quickly get you the heave-ho ..

??

Surely you should have some sort of right to know what is going on?? I would demand to know before being escorted off site.

Edit - I sort of understand now because its a school, standard procedure by the sounds of it :(

As far as I know, I've been doing everything I'm meant to and a bit extra, haven't done anything wrong or that I'm not meant to, and deffinatly haven't been browsing OcUK all day :p

Seek legal advice. Currently there's an investigation and the reason why you're suspended is because they fear your involved or will cause harm to the company in some form. It could also be their way of keeping you at distance to protect you from any crap flying around with someone else.

A letter by an employment legal eagle should make it clear to them that you take this as seriously as they are taking it. Also there will be a record of your asking what is the issue and their refusal to respond.

The problem is if they move later against you they could do plan todo it quickly and having an employment lawyer onboard now will aid the speed of your response if it's something bad.

One of my mates got instant dismissal and didn't know why.

Turned out he just forwarded (note DIDN'T WRITE just forwarded from a mate to a couple of other mates) a load of joke emails, a couple of which were racist.

Somehow boss-man got to read the email .. instant dismissal time. No written warning. No 'you have been a badboy' .. just 'Get out of the office right now, forever'!!

!

Had you been browsing OcUK at work because the internet filters at the school may have picked up on words in posts?
