hey guys im drunk but curious about somthing.

i have 2 sega saturns in the attic, one is the orginal 1995 uk one with the oval buttons the other one is a stupid one with round buttons.

i see theres mods to replace the cd drive for a sd card, are they any good and also how would i go linking up a saturn to a modern tv or monitor?

i have 2 spare 27 inch monitors and a 32 inch tv spare.

last time i had a saturn hooked up to a tv it was a scart cable.....

i wouldnt normally ask this but as every one knows saturn emulation sucks and i have about 60 game discs in the attic :)

im guessing theres not any cheaper options?

edit: the price on these ones sound a bit pricey for me and not sure i can justify the cost, seems like something to keep in mind though, assuming the 2 i have still power up :)

The Fenrir is probably the cheapest ODE option, I guess you could look at picking up something 2nd hand.

Sounds like you’ve got plenty of games though, you could just use your Saturns as is, until the drives fail and then look at ODE options. Or sell one of the units to help fund your mods.

The Fenrir is really good for the Saturn, but as naefeart pointed out, if you already have 60 games you probably have plenty to play.

You could always consider selling those 60 games to fund some upgrades for the Saturn?

With regards to getting the best image, pre-orders for Rad2x cables have opened up this morning from retro gaming cables. Shipping date is currently set for around July. These are plug and play solutions (provides a 2x upscale). This will provide a decent output from the Saturn via HDMI (you will need to purchase a mini hdmi cable).

Worth mentioning, the mister saturn core is playing most of the software and will be a public full release soon, expect 100% compatibility, i only say this because the ODE's are expensive for saturn and you're half way to a mister which will play Saturn, Playstation, N64 core being developed, 32x, Mega CD and all the 8 and 16 bit consoles and computers.

Could always go another route and emulate the Sega arcade machines instead of Saturn. Saturn is a pig as you say, but Sega Model 2 / 3 / NAOMI / NAOMI 2 are better.
