I'm trying to find a suitable setup for a new PC I intend to build fairly soon, though I am having trouble deciding what RAM would be best for the following:

MoBo: Asus Striker Extreme
CPU: Intel Quad QX6850
GFX: Geforce 8800GTX

I plan on overclocking and am looking at getting 4 x 1GB worth of DDR2 RAM. Eye is currently resting on the OCZ PC2-9200:

Is this overkill? and if so, what would be recommended?

Yeah it's overkill.

But judging by the rest of your spec you can afford a little overkill.

 yes.

That's extremely expensive for just 2GB of RAM yet alone buying 4GB of it!

For instance you could get 2 kits of these;
OcUK 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-8500C5 1066MHz Dual Channel Kit
£54.99
£64.61 inc VAT

which tbh will be perfectly fine for when you come to overclock your CPU, I mean if you run at 1:1 (advisable) then your looking at a overclock of 4.2GHz.

hehe, I figured, thanks for the responce! Though still scratching my head as to why those recommended by truebluecfc are about half the cost of any of the main brand RAM of exactly the same speeds and cycles despite this weeks offer... am I missing something?

Because it's unbranded OEM memory with a 12 month warranty. That usually knocks a fair few quid off the price. I have it and it's pretty good.

200 quid is a fair more than few, hehe. Will switch to the recommended ones, thanks to both of you for the help.

Your whole system is an overkill, you could cut right back.

No need for the QX6850 just get the Q6600 and clock it up.

The Striker motherboard is a heap of carp ever made. It offers nothing over the P35 Chipset boards apart from SLI, which is a totall waste of money anyway. Go for one of the P35 Chipset based boards. Their is NOTHING good about the striker other than the name which seems to draw people in for some stupid reason.
