I am currently in the Process of building a Gaming Rig and have pretty much all of the parts I want for it planned except for the GPU. I have been doing a fair bit of research into it and been trying to really narrow it down but seem to come to a bit of a wall when it comes to selecting the one I want.

The rig I planned so far is:

CPU: AMD 8350, 4ghz

MOTHERBOARD: ASUS Sabertooth 990FX

RAM: 16GB

STORAGE: 1TB Hybrid and 1TB Backup

CASE: Fractal Design Arc Midi R2

POWER SUPPLY: 750w Corsiar Enthusiast

So this is what I am planning so far but selecting a GPU has proven to be a difficult choice. I have kind of narrowed it down to four which seem to get some solid reviews and have great performance.

NVIDIA

- 660 TI

- 670

ATI

- 7950

- 7970

Now judging by my research these are all good high-end cards and all seem to be a decent price and these are the price range that I want to stay at, however I am unsure which will give me the most out of my money. Now the 7950 and 7970's seem to be at a great price but seen that they are known to run very hot and can be loud, and with the Nividia's it seems like they are more expensive than the ATI cards but in terms of performance seem to be in the same ballpark but of course one attaction is PhysX.

So anyone shed some light on thier experiences with these cards or any alternative that are worth taking a look at? Also shall be playing at 1920x1080

HD 7000 series GPU's running hot and loud is a fanboi chew on to be frank. all HD 7000 series GPU's run just as cool and quiet as GTX 600 GPU's.

My recommendation would be this. HIS HD 7950 IceQ BOOST £260, very quiet and very cool running.

They idle hotter than nvidia with <1 screen, but nothing major. In terms of performance/pound the 7950 is the best card available. The 660ti is a fail.

They only use about 3 watts at idle, how can that be? :p

They ramp the clocks up as far as ive seen, don't they?

My 680s managed 3x1080p at full idle but i just added a 2560x1080 accessory and *now* the primary card idles at max memory clock/mid-way core

It's a non-issue, just postulating where this 'zomgz they run hotter' might be coming from.

Browser acceleration (youtube ect...) ^^^ just the same as GTX 600 series GPU's

Idle they run @ 150 / 300 / 0.8v, next stage is 500 / 1200 / 1v.....

Sapphire HD 7950 FLEX DUAL-X @ £270. but I think the HIS is better.

sorry I meant >1 screen (not sure if its still the case or whether the 79x0 users telling me were tards.)

It's been a long day..

There have been a lot viruses (Bitcoin mining Trojans) of late that have caused the GPU to spike up and down and heat up, if someone you know has those issues they need to check for viruses.
