Self defence?

I can think of very few other MA schools that encourage first strike to areas such as the groin and throat. Such areas are generally discouraged as strike points unless you actually want to seriously injure someone.

True, but an awful lot of SD classes, particularly for women will encourage strikes to the groin. Most MAs don't because it's not 'fair'.

Self defence is about neutralising a threat, that doesn't have to entail crippling someone or causing them large amounts of pain to do it.

I didn't say you had to. You could shock them just by resiting their initial attack and you could disable them by pushing them to the ground.

Well, anyone who focuses exclusively on one training method or style will always have a vunerable point, Krav Maga practicers certainly do, in that they are overly aggressive in many cases.

Again, Krav Maga does have it's weaknesses, but few that would stop it from being used as self defence. It was designed specifically to be learned quicky and to be used by anyone from 8 to 80, male or female since the Isralis wanted to teach thir entire population when the first founded their state.

As for the agressiveness, you only have to watch Karate Kid to know that any MA can be used agressively. Man that Cobra Dojo is bad. ;)

As with all these things, our mileage may very, and we're both entitled to our own opinions :)

Different stokes and all that :)
