Self-inflicted error forces rebuild

I was just looking at the thread on what could go wrong with self-builds and coincidentally, I made a boo-boo when I built mine. However, the problem has just been diagnosed (when the mobo fried at the weekend) and now I need a rebuild.

I have and am keeping: 2x hard disk, 2x optical disks, a Geforce 7800GTX, 2x 1Gb RAM

I am thinking I might keep the C2D processor I bought 3 months ago - the 6420 - but I could be tempted to upgrade if it's worth doing.

I will be buying a new sound card - X-Fi Music, £42.99 + vat. That's a dead cert.

I need a motherboard, cpu cooler, case, and a modular PSU that can handle this spec. I will not be going SLI.

Budget: £400-500 inc vat.

Can anyone make recommendations for this spec?

u say 2xhd and 2xoptical drives are they ide or sata ?

would suggest the following but mobo may need changing depending on the number of ide connections u need :

Akasa Eclipse 62 Aluminium Case - No PSU £79.99 (£93.99)

Corsair HX 620W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU (CMPSU-620HXUK) £74.99 (£88.11)

Noctua NH-U12F (Socket LGA775/754/939/940/AM2) Heatsink £32.99 (£38.76)

Gigabyte GA_P35_DS3P (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard £84.99 (£99.86)

Sub Total : £272.96
Shipping : £9.95
VAT : £49.51
Total : £332.42

Optical drives are IDE. Hard disks are SATA.

Do I really need a 620w PSU? Would I be okay with the next one down, 520w?

should be ok with the motherboard then, only quoted the 620 as it was well within budget, 520 will be fine as mentioned by Growlingfish.
