Whats the difference in parts? A lot of parts are made by the same companies then just labeled different.

If you use OE parts, this is true. However pattern parts can be ropey.

Still, if you're so worried about what's going on the car, buy the parts yourself and give it to the garage to fit. Simples.

So how can you say that all garages rip you off then? Yeah there are some out there that want all your money but not all are the same.

the norm is about £70 an hour and i think thats a rip off when most jobs can be done with a bit of comon sence and joining the car related forum

I totally agree, if your slightly mechanically minded you could do almost anything on a car with the right guides. I just disagree with what you said about all garages want to rip you off. £70 an hour is not bad, would you say the same for other trades such as plumbers etc??

Round here £70 is cheap, cambridge way.
i do as much my self as i can I am alway learning and will have a go at anything. theirare always guides on the net and get advice from people you know the only thing i dont do is gas related

everything is different with parts. thats one of those "if you have to ask" questions.

some brand parts not even worth the effort in fitting.

Febi, for example, is a brand to avoid like the plague in my experience

i dont care about the cost. i dont do it because of the cost. IMO most garages are a rip off because the jobs rarely get done right. there is rarely the care or attention to detail because the fitters have no passion in what theyre doing. they dont care, so for any service like that, its not worth the money.

Yeah i wasn't on about the un heard of parts, i was stating a fact that a lot of parts are made by the same company but have different labels on, mann filters for example are very good quality, many others out there too. Never even heard of Febi so that says it all really.
Not all people who work in garages are fitters and dont care about there workmanship either lol you need to be more educated and get your head from up your arse.

less of the language sweetheart. you just sound like someone despirately trying to compensate for a lack of mechanical ability.

dont worry about it though, i dont think it makes you less of a man, just swallow the bills and lack of service with pride, but thats not what this thread is about, its about asking whats involved in doing these things yourself, not "i cant/dont/wont do it because A, B and C"

Ha ha listen to yourself lol, plenty of mechanical ability. I could sit here and argue with you all day but whats the point??? Your right all people who work in garages have no clue, your the best and all your work is the best, sorry my mistake.

About which bit. I could do anything on a vehicle with the correct manual, its my job you dumb asses haha.
I was stating a fact in the first place that someone who has no clue about anything on a car cant just do a service simple as that.

and clearly you have absolutely no idea about car maintenance etc as FEBI are amongst the biggest brands for aftermarket parts and produce bits for just about every brand of car going.
